Some topics seem to always make members disagree and even start 'flame wars' (politics, religion etc.), while others seem to attract people how know how to argue in a civil manner. In my case the most 'flammable' topic was martial arts, especially when some members started showing off their ranks in real life and stopped caring about following rules in a community they didn't run.

What's the most 'flammable' topic you had started a forum in?

Mainly fan writing. There was a big Pokemon writer on my forum who was always hated for it.

Fantasy writing has a lot of stigma so does romance and detective. I never will understand the pure venom people have about this. I was on one forum where the majority liked me, thought i was a great member then they all turned venomous when they found out I write fantasy and crime

I've never had a problem with flaming in topics on a forum, nothing major anyways nor anything more in one particular topic.

    Religion.

Once I started a thread asking what religion people were and it got nasty quick. From atheists preaching there is no God, to people who did believe in God preaching why their version of God was the only true one. etc.

I remember speaking with an Arabic woman on religion once and she was so insightful. It was wonderful hearing her views and not once did our conversation ever get to reprimanding the other for their beliefs, it was merely and exchange of knowledge and by the end neither of us thought less of our own religion even after learning about the others. I thought the forum would be like that. Boy was I wrong...

I'm not sure if the flame topic would be filed under politics or governmental policies or racial tension, but there's an incident here in the states where a neighborhood watch captain shoot and killed a 17 year old boy. The media has done an excellent job manipulating the situation, but for those who have followed the case or even shown just a minimal interest, it's an issue that has divided people. It's ongoing and there have been some pretty serious, inflammatory things spread throughout, regarding both the neighborhood watchman and the teenager.

I started a thread asking everyone's opinion on the case and there was a plethora of opinions offered, from racial profiling to stricter gun control laws to the mere incompetence of the police. It's a pretty charged issue, even now, and the case has been thrown so many curve balls it's virtually impossible to find anyone in this country that hasn't already formed an opinion.
