You know my little obsession with flat file scripts. Well, recently I found out about FlatPress. FlatPress is a flat file-based blogging script. Although it is in an early development stage, it is quite customizable to fit most bloggers' needs. The script is compatible with SimplePHPBlog storing system, and it also features a plug-in system resembling the one from WordPress and Smarty templating engine.

I was just wondering whether anyone has used this script or would consider building a blog with it. What would be the advantages and disadvantages?

Whether I'd use it or not would completely depend on what it could offer me that WordPress doesn't already offer me, same with any other blog script. And I don't see this being much better if it's better at all.

Databases are there for a reason. It's already considered that for a site that you want to develop further a flat file system would be detrimental in time. I have stopped using such things 9 years ago, wouldn't even start a site if it doesn't run on a MySQL database ;)

Really it does not matter what it offers for me. Wordpress is much more supported and has a wider user base which means more people will want to develop for it because it is getting the users. And that will beat an nearly unknown blog script any day for me.

Good to know that someone is trying something new. However they have a tremendous uphill battle. I use Wordpress exclusively. In fact, if Wordpress had a better forum plugin I would be using Wordpress even for my forums. So Flatpress will have to come up with something really outstanding to get me interested.

I've never heard of Flat Press before, so I can't really comment on it. I'm quite happy with WordPress though and I don't think I would even consider changing from it at any time in the near future. But I can't say "never" because I don't know what's going to happen down the line. For the time being though, I'm with WordPress all the way.

I've never heard of it, and while that doesn't automatically make it bad, I won't be so keen on using it.

Looks like as far as this community is concerned, Flatpress has really fallen flat on its face. Are there actually any websites being built with Flatpress? I mean live sites.
