Some claim directories are 'dead' and pretty useless when it comes to promoting a site or doing SEO. Do you still submit your site to directories?

Never bothered, but I can see their use. In the end any link is a good link, even if it doesn't come from a big traffic site.

Not anymore, when I first started getting into promotion and SEO a couple years ago I did directory submissions, but the results were very bad, and it just felt like a waste of time.

I have in the past and I’ve actually found that they can help. I’ve gotten a few members from directory submissions before as well, so I suppose it helped a bit. It’s not my main form of advertising, but I do still do it from time to time.

Only a few paid directories have actually helped my rankings but these are directories that do serious filtering of applications and are industry specific so it is not as is if there are many to apply to. These directory owners actually looked at my forums and had me make certain changes to layout and main page content before they would accept them so I did feel as if I was getting more value for my money. They also only charged one time submission fees instead of annual fees.

Directory Submission is most easiest task of submission.. Go on directorycritics.com and vmoptions.com have plenty of list directory list and do submission on that site
